The MAZI Project Treasurer Role

The MAZI Project is looking for a Treasurer to join our board and support the organisation with to help oversee all financial aspects of the charity to help ensure it thrives and creates the most impact!

The opportunity:

MAZI is seeking to appoint a Treasurer who can use their expertise to help oversee all financial aspects of the charity, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, to ensure its short and long-term viability and to support our mission for change!

Our Mission: To empower Bristol’s disadvantaged 16 – 25 year olds through food.

Together with Bristol’s independent food sector, local community and partner charities we create an inclusive environment for vulnerable young people to experience the power of food and feel part of Bristol’s thriving community. As a Trustee you will:

  • Help shape our strategic development as an organisation.
  • Ensure our services are safe, effective and well led, delivering positive outcomes for our aMAZIng young people.
  • Ensure our systems of quality assurance, governance and accountability are robust and support continuous improvement.
  • Influence our innovative projects and initiatives, especially with the general public.
  • Be supported to attend relevant fundraising and training events.
  • Help improve the mental health and wellbeing of people, communities and volunteers to achieve a healthy work life balance.
  • You will have a proven, professional track record of leadership.
  • You will share our vision, and ambition to take a leading role in our journey to be recognised as an outstanding organisation.
  • Ideally, you will have experience of charity governance and working with or as part of a Board of Trustees.
  • Promote the overall mission of the organisation with your network.

As the organisation’s Treasurer you will:

Overall

  • Oversee the financial affairs of the organisation and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice.
  • Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial policies and procedures are in place.
  • Monitor,report, forecast and advise on the financial health of the organisation.
  • Oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits.


Specifically

  • Liaise with founder and other committee members and/or volunteers to ensure the financial viability of the organisation.
  • Make fellow committee members aware of their financial obligations and take a lead in interpreting financial data to them.
  • Regularly report the financial position at committee meetings (balance sheet, cash flow, fundraising performance etc).
  • Identify, access and monitor financial risks and ensure optimal mitigations are implemented and maintained.
  • Provide long and short term forecast/outlook of the financial position
  • Oversee the production of an annual budget and propose its adoption at the last meeting of the previous financial year.
  • Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial policies, procedures and controls are in place.
  • Appraising the financial viability of plans, proposals and feasibility studies.
  • Acting as a representative and (counter-)signatory on bank operations (including cheques and/or any electronic transactions) and any applications for funds.
  • Lead on appointing and liaising with accountants/auditors/independent examiner and other professional bodies as required.


Essential

  • Fundraising/income-generation knowledge and/or business development.
  • An understanding of the UK grant and contract sector.
  • An understanding of the challenges facing organisations
  • Experience of diverse income generation practices.
  • Ability to think creatively.

 

The expected time of commitment is a monthly meeting with the management team, a minimum of four evenings for Board meetings (typically two hours), an annual strategy day (typically two hours), four sub-Committee meetings (typically two hours), and one service visit per year.
